This New Horror Film Is Now Streaming, and It Might Make or Break Your Partnership.

We present a test for partners in committed relationships who appreciate the horror genre: Settle in with your partner and view Together. The critically acclaimed 2025 movie recently had its launch on a streaming platform via Hulu. Outwardly, it could look like standard body horror, but within Together exists a deep contemplation about the ways we decide to love one another.

A Debut Feature Investigating Relationship Dynamics

Together represents the first full-length movie for director Michael Shanks. It features the real-life married couple Dave Franco and Alison Brie as a couple named Tim and Millie, an unmarried couple that have remained a couple for over ten years. United in marriage in actuality in 2017, Franco and Brie bring a special spark to their portrayals, masterfully depicting both the strengths and weaknesses of a long-term relationship.

The narrative commences when Tim and Millie move from the urban environment to the rural area for professional reasons. A familiar plot device, sure, but that’s mostly where the conventions conclude. Together becomes as much a psychological exploration of the pair’s relationship as it is a body horror flick.

A Paranormal Spark

While hiking near their rural residence, a storm hits, and the protagonists tumble into an underground cave. After being trapped overnight there and managing to escape, a strange force starts to affect the pair. This force induces a otherworldly bond between them that goes far beyond emotional intimacy.

The whole movie is a methodically building horror experience, blending bits of hallucinatory nightmares, unsettling (but tastefully done) physical transformations, and surprisingly comedic exchanges (sometimes in the middle of something horrific). Shanks skillfully blends these components neatly and wraps them up in a consistently growing sense of impending doom.

Layered Performances

A great deal of Together is only Brie and Franco, and they masterfully render numerous complexities to the dynamic between Tim and Millie. Millie’s confidence and sense of connection is suffering due to a distance. Her underlying frustration of Tim for his hesitance to focus on anything other than his floundering music career gradually emerges.

Tim, on the other hand feels trapped and isolated by Millie, who’s the impetus they’ve left the city and far away from his support system. He is terrified of the idea of completely losing his personal autonomy in Millie. This fear is intensified by the reality he can’t drive and needs Millie for mobility.

The director's cleverest decision in Together never makes one partner or the other the obvious villain.

The couple confront the sort of issues that are inherent in any relationship after ten years. Fundamentally, they continue to care for each other. They find humor with each other, offer support, and open up at times. But under the surface, there’s an inescapable undercurrent of doubt about their bond.

Symbolism and Metaphor

While the paranormal elements in Together represent these anxieties of unhealthy attachment and giving oneself over to another person, the allegory does not come across as overly obvious or heavy-handed. Instead, these ickier, creepier moments provide a brilliant analogue to the relationship narrative. Both the horror and the drama enhance each other in harmony.

A Divisive Ending

Together’s conclusion, which is best experienced firsthand, has created disagreement on the movie's final takeaway about enmeshed dynamics. It has been said that unattached audience members have seen the movie as a strong argument for staying single. Meanwhile, some couples having disagreements found that the film actually helped them make up.

If you are alone or with a partner, your own reaction could function as a telling indicator of how you think about commitment. Will the finale sow a sense of discomfort and fear, or a heartwarming sense of hope? Will you recognize your own traits in one of the characters and scream at your TV, or simply glance toward your significant other and say, “I’d do that for you”?

Whatever the case may be, Together is an test you can embark on right now.

Together is streaming on the streaming service Hulu at present.
