Donald Trump's Regime of Consequences and Incentives

The ex-president's insatiable desire for retribution has rapidly transformed into a structured framework. Over the past year, the chief executive's anger and impulses have taken on the form of government actions in ways comparable to historical dictatorial governments. Federal figures who do not cooperate are immediately dismissed and replaced by loyalists. Opposing leaders who challenge him risk legal action, judicial process and penalties. Critics have been labeled under administration directives as “anti-American”, “opposed to religious values” and “opposing economic freedom”, and menaced with legal action as “security threats”.

The Justice System Restructured

Each case involving prosecution of critics and protection for supporters displays its own unique features. But, notwithstanding their specific character, they embody examples of what has arisen as a calculated approach. Those events are far from isolated. His purge of DoJ attorneys and law enforcement officials, alongside his placement of devotees in high-level posts, started rapidly, soon developed a pattern, and has now been formed into a structure. DoJ and the FBI have been remade into political organizations under his clear direction to carry out his directives. Wrongdoing has been turned into routine. This is the apparatus of revenge.

Administration is focused with penalizing the chief's supposed opponents than they are with defending our national security.

Internal the Apparatus

The beginnings of this system has been uncovered in the lawsuit of multiple ex- high-ranking Federal Bureau agents submitted in late summer in the US district court in the capital against top official Kash Patel and top lawyer another official for wrongful dismissal in “a initiative of payback against Plaintiffs for what administration figures judged to be a failure to show adequate allegiance”. In the complaint that Brian Driscoll, the former temporary head, details a discussion in which Patel “publicly acknowledged the illegality of his actions”.

He had sought to defend FBI agents from being fired, the complaint claims. He informed him that “White House figures” – perceived by him to be the executive branch and federal prosecutors – had directed him to remove all those who they determined as having been involved in a legal probe against the president. The complaint continues: “He clarified that he had to fire the people his leaders told him to dismiss, because his ability to keep his own role relied on the ouster of the personnel who were involved in cases involving the chief executive. Patel explained that there was no option he or him could do to stop these or any other firings, because ‘the FBI attempted to place the leader in detention and he remembers.’” When Driscoll advised Patel he was violating the agency's own policies, the director reportedly said “he knew that and he knew the nature of the swift terminations were almost certainly unlawful”.

Widespread Consequences

After his reported acknowledgment to him, the DoJ and the law enforcement agency have been gutted and repurposed for the administration's retribution system. Six of the FBI's senior executives were fired or compelled to leave in the initial period of the administration. Approximately thousands of professional attorneys at the department have accepted a “deferred resignation program”. At least several DoJ lawyers, such as those in the Manhattan division, quit in objection over what they regarded as partisan influence in dropping the corruption case against the New York City mayor, Eric Adams, in as a trade for his collaboration with the administration's Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrests of immigrants. The public integrity section of the department, which handles corruption cases, has been cut down to two attorneys. The equality section has been decimated: seventy percent of its staff has departed. One-third of top officials at DoJ have quit. The division upholding conservation statutes has seen departures of a majority its management.

Rewards and Penalties

Regarding the legal matter, the acting US attorney for the NY office, Danielle Sassoon, stepped down in dissent against what she described as the “exchange”. The border official, the president's “immigration leader,” was present as the enforcer with Adams on television to declare: “Should he fail to deliver, I will return in New York City.”. Additionally, a former official, previously the acting deputy attorney general and a former Trump attorney, who negotiated the arrangement, was awarded an court role, a possible pathway to the judicial branch.

Trump's exemption for wrongdoings committed while in office, provided by the remarkable decision of the Republican majority on the supreme court, thus preventing his legal action over the January 6 insurrection and preserving his public standing for the 2024 election, is the basis on which he stands to shield his loyalists. With such immunity, he has been liberated to enable misconduct. The effect of the supreme court decision infuses his administration and the political party completely. The court matter has escalated.
