Roughly fifty automobiles have been covered with what appears to be blood from a person in the German municipality of Hanau close to Frankfurt, according to police.
Automobiles, building surfaces and mailboxes were defaced, in some cases with swastikas, they announced in a official communication.
Officers state they were notified late on Wednesday, when a resident discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a reddish substance.
The liquid had been placed in the shape of a Nazi symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other marked automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.
Nazi symbols are banned in Germany under laws banning the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Law enforcement report early analysis indicate the liquid was likely human bodily fluid.
"There is still no clue as to its source; authorities are not yet aware of any physical harm in relation with the event," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the residents for information.
An important political figure stated the incident rendered him without words and needed to be solved promptly.
"This event hits the very heart of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing terrorist attack in 2020," he wrote on online, recalling the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at individuals of foreign heritage in 2020.
